2024 Weed Wrangle at Orchard Bend Park

Join the Friends of Mill Creek Greenway and the Mill Creek Watershed Association for a morning of Weed Wrangle along the Mill Creed Greenway near Orchard Bend Park.

We will remove invasive, non-native plants, mainly bush honeysuckle and Chinese privet along the Greenway trail, which will require an approximately eight-minute walk from the main Orchard Bend parking.  We will use Uprooters/Weed Wrenches, mattocks, shovels and loppers. Work gloves, energy bars, and bulk water will be provided (bring reusable water bottles). Uprooters/Weed Wrenches and some shovels, mattocks and loppers will be provided.

To supplement what we provide, volunteers should bring sturdy shovels, mattocks and loppers, if available. Bring reusable water containers and safety glasses or glasses.  Wear sturdy work shoes or boots, long pants and long sleeve shirts, dress in layers appropriate for weather.

Mill Creek Watershed Association (MCWA) and Friends of Mill Creek Greenway (FMCGW) will be the onsite hosts for this event which is being organized county-wide by the Garden Club of Nashville and Weed Wrangle Nashville.  MCWA is working to protect and inform about Mill Creek, and FMCGW is working to protect and improve Mill Creek Greenway. The work will allow native trees and shrubs to grow and will benefit native wildlife  that rely on these plants.

Please park at the Orchard Bend parking lot. A lite lunch will be provided at Blue Hole Farm when finished.

Weed Wrangle® is an ongoing, city-wide volunteer effort to help rescue our public parks and green spaces from invasive species through hands-on removal of especially harmful trees, vines and flowering plants.

Southeast Egg Hunt!

Southeast Egg Hunt!

What began as a small, community Egg Hunt 18 years ago by former Metro Nashville Council Member and former Public Schools board member Karen Johnson, has turned into the Southeast Nashville Egg Hunt & Festival Event (SEE) with over 7,000 in attendance each year.

A group of community leaders plan this all-day event that includes egg hunts for all ages, vendor booths, a character parade, live entertainment, inflatables and special prizes.

Leaders from our government, schools, churches and community come together to provide this fun day for the families in our growing multi-cultural community. The Mill Creek Watershed Association will have a table there to ask community members for some feedback regarding a new park in Antioch. The park will be located on Antioch Pike, just North of Blue Hole Rd.
